The Megaways mechanic means this slot plays out on a grid of six dynamic reels. Each one can possess anything from two to seven symbols, potentially resulting in a maximum of 46,656 ways to win.

Regular Symbols

The regular symbols in Big Bass Bonanza Megaways return to those of the fist game. There are five playing card icons, 10 through A, plus five higher-paying symbols, which are items of angling paraphernalia. 

Card icons offer 0.1x, 0.15x and 0.2x for three on a payline, with a maximum of 1.75x for six A symbols. These are followed by the fish, which returns from 0.2x to 1.75x. 

Next in line are the tackle box and fly, both of which pay between 0.25x and 2x. Meanwhile, a fishing rod earns you between 1x and 7.5x for three to six matches. 

The best-paying symbol is the float, and you’ll only need two of these to secure a prize of 2x. However, three to six will return 5x, 10x, 25x and 50x your wager.

Money Symbol

The fish also serve as a special Money Symbol. Whenever they land, you’ll notice a randomly-selected cash value attached. This ranges from 2x up to a massive 4,000x. Money Symbols play a crucial role in the free spins round.

Wilds

A net beneath the word “Wild” substitutes for any other symbol, aside from the scatter and fisherman. However, it can only appear on the top row of reels 2 to 5.

Scatters

Just like previous installments, a fish biting a hook is the scatter. Three or more will trigger the free spins bonus.

Tumble Feature

After every winning spin, a Tumble triggers. Here, winning symbols disappear, while remaining symbols fill the spaces and new ones fall from above. This repeats if further wins are created, until no more remain. 

Free Spins

Drop three or more scatters onto the grid to earn ten, 15, 20 or 25 free spins. During this round, the fisherman can appear. If he does, he’ll collect all of the visible Money Symbols.

For every four fisherman symbols acquired, there’s an extra ten spins available, as well as a 2x multiplier. This increases to 3x and 10x as you continue to find fishermen.

Two random events can also occur during free spins, if one or two fishermen appear without Money Symbols. Dynamite could blow Money Symbols randomly onto the reels, or a bazooka can destroy all regular symbols, replacing them with fresh ones.

We’re fans of the Big Bass series, but we have to be honest. Aside from the addition of the Megaways engine, this is basically the same game as Bigger Bass Bonanza. 

Perhaps the Megaways element is enough for some players to justify a new release. But they haven’t even increased the maximum possible win from 4,000x. That’s a surprisingly low figure for a Megaways title.

If you’re looking for angling-based Megaways fun, a better option might be Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Catch Megaways. That Blueprint Gaming title boasts a massive potential payout of 50,000x. 

Still, this is a decent enough game in its own right. The familiar elements of the series all return, and it’s genuinely good fun to play. We just wish they’d sprinkled in something a little bit different.
