The tropics might have endured a frosty spell, but they’re still, well, tropical. As such, the reels are packed with exotic fruits synonymous with the region. Other symbols in the game include playing card icons A through 10, a frozen-looking parrot scatter, plus two “W” symbols that act as wilds. Overall, it’s a fun and light-hearted theme, backed by a jolly tune. Although it’s not the most graphically in-depth release by this developer, there are still a few pleasing animations.

Regular Symbols

The regular symbols in Frozen Tropics consist of playing card icons 10 through A. These lower-value icons offer payouts from 0.05x to 0.10x for three, rising to 0.40x and 0.50x for six. 

Premium symbols are fruits, although not the classic icons you might expect. The bananas, watermelon slice, grapes, plum and strawberry pay between 0.20x and 0.75x for five. Rewards increase to a possible 2x for matching six strawberries.

Frozen Symbols

All symbols come in one of three states. Level three symbols are entirely frozen, with level two partially frozen and level one completely defrosted. With each tumble, frozen symbols lose a level until they unfreeze and disappear, leaving behind a multiplier.    

Tumble Feature

The Tumble feature activates after any win in the Frozen Tropics slot. All unfrozen winning symbols are removed from the reels, though partially frozen and frozen symbols stay in place. All remaining symbols then drop to the bottom of the grid, with more tumbling in from the top, potentially creating further wins.  

Wilds

The Frozen Tropics slot also features a wild symbol that awards a multiplier according to whichever reel it lands on. This Pragmatic Play release offers a fair bit in terms of features. Simply landing six scatter symbols or wilds on reels two and five awards a 100x payout, which is impressive, to say the least. 

In addition, the Frozen Symbol feature is a little bit different. These symbols, which change state after a win, can lead to impressive multipliers. Of course, the game also has everything you’d expect of a modern slot, like free spins and a tumble feature.

Visually, though, the Frozen Tropics slot doesn’t really shine. And that’s not something you would typically say about Pragmatic Play games. The theme itself is fun, but the graphics seem a bit flat compared to what we’ve seen this developer put out before. This, combined with high variance and a maximum potential win of just 9,000x, leave this slot firmly planted in the average bracket.
