This means that there are no traditional paylines and you can land winning combinations anywhere across the grid. There is also a cascading mechanism here. The Tome of Madness slot is the 4th Play ‘n Go title to feature the adventurer, Rich Wilde. While other titles have been centred around historical places, such as ancient Egypt, this one is a little different. Here, the theme is based on the writings of H.P Lovecraft. These writings refer to a giant sea monster, known as Cthulhu, that leads to people losing their minds simply by looking at it.
Of course, the main character here is Rich Wilde. He appears to the right of the grid and seems to have undergone a makeover of sorts. His quest in this title is to unlock the secrets of the Cult of Cthulhu. As well as unlocking secrets, there’s also the small matter of hidden treasures. The symbols all tie in nicely with the theme, with the likes of rings, daggers, and crystals.
When you play Tome of Madness, there’s also an impressive soundtrack playing along in the background. This creates an air of mystery and tension and really adds to the gameplay. We’re also fans of the dramatic sounds when winning combinations land.

Regular symbols
The lower-paying symbols come in the form of green, purple, red, and blue crystals. The higher-paying symbols are:

Eye Marks
While playing the base game, there is the possibility of a pink Eye Mark appearing in random locations on the grid. If there is a winning cluster on these locations, then 2 special wilds will be added to the grid.
Portal and Special Wilds
There is a port to the left of the grid, and this is central to the bonuses in the Tome of Madness slot. Whenever winning clusters land, the portal charges and gets more and more powerful. This charging continues every time winning combinations land, and the total number of winning symbols is displayed in the centre of the portal. Here’s what the numbers mean:
- 7 winning symbols = 2 special wilds added to the grid
- 14 winning symbols = 2 special wilds are added and if they become part of a winning combination the Abyss Portal effect comes into play. This removes all symbols from rows or columns containing special wilds. The symbols are then used to charge the portal.
- 27 winning symbols = 2 special wilds and the chance to activate the Void Portal feature. This sees random symbols being removed and used to charge the portal.
- 42 winning symbols = the triggering of the Other World Free Round Feature. This contains 3 random portal effects.
Mega Wild
During the Other World Free Round Feature, there will be 11 or 12 Eye Markers. If any symbol clusters are won on an Eye Marker, an eye will then open. When all of the eyes are opened the Mega Wild Cthulhu is activated. This huge symbol is added to the reels and moves down every time there is a cascade. This increases your chances of multiple wins.
