Theme & Graphics in Wild Chapo
A desert scene is the backdrop and a 5x3 grid with 15 paylines sits front and center. The reels, which are framed by a partially-painted wooden structure, pop forward as you play, dropping back again whenever you take a quick break.
The star of this slot is Wild Chapo, who looks like a Mexican version of Yosemite Sam from the Looney Tunes cartoons. Although he wears a red sombrero and rebozo combination and possesses a questionable accent, the game otherwise steers away from lazy cliches. The music, for instance, is actually quite moody, rather than the stereotypically upbeat mariachi band you might expect.
Although the gun-toting, dynamite-wiedling Chapo looks mean and aggressive, especially with his gold tooth and scowl, there’s nothing to fear. The game is actually pretty playful, a tone that’s immediately set with a funny animated cutscene. What’s more, the characters are somewhat cartoonish, and the goofy-looking chihuahua is perhaps our favorite.
Wild Chapo Slot Features
In the following segment of our Wild Chapo review, we’ll look at the game’s various features. Take note that we’re discussing the original title here, not the updated version from Relax Gaming’s Dream Drop series of progressive jackpot slots.
Regular Symbols
Just eight regular symbols feature in this Wild Chapo slot. The four lowest-payers are playing card symbols with colorful designs as you might see on traditional Mexican textiles. The spade, heart, club and diamond pay the same 4x, 1.5x and 0.4x returns for aligning five, four or three.
Wild Chapo himself is the most valuable regular symbol, returning 25x for five on a payline, with 2x and 10x offered for three and four. His gang members, the donkey, owl and chihuahua are next in line, with top prizes of 20x, 15x and 10x respectively.
Wilds
Watch out for the letter “W” sitting in front of an explosion, as this serves as the game’s wild symbol. Not only does this substitute for ordinary symbols to form wins, you’ll also gain 40x, 15x and 5x when collecting five, four or three.
Aside from the regular wild, a crate of dynamite marked “WILD TNT” can also appear during both the base game and free spins. This explodes, causing wilds to cover the entire reel.
Scatters
The game’s scatter is dubbed the “Bonus Symbol” and landing three or more triggers the free spins feature. You’ll recognise it easily, as it looks like a bomb with a skull on the front, as well as the word “BONUS”.
Free Spins
Three Bonus Symbols during the base game grants you seven free spins, with an extra two spins for each triggering scatter. Once underway, collecting three more scatters in a single round will trigger an additional three free spins.
During the feature, any Bonus Symbols that appear are collected and stored on that space. This includes those scatters which initially triggered the feature. On the final spin, all of these symbols explode and turn into wilds.
If a space had stored more than one scatter, the resulting wild carries a multiplier as a result. For example, if it contained three Bonus Symbols, the wild would be x3.
Buy Feature
Don’t have time to wait around for the feature to trigger naturally? Simply buy your way straight into the bonus for just 60x.
How to Play Wild Chapo Online
Relax Gaming’s Wild Chapo slot is very easy to get to grips with. The aim is to match three of the same symbol from left to right on any of the 15 paylines. Collect Bonus Symbols to trigger the free spins feature explained earlier in our Wild Chapo review.
Set your bet size using the options in the bottom-left corner, then tap the circular arrow to spin. You can also use the buttons either side of this to speed up the animations and configure an unlimited number of automatic spins.

Wild Chapo Review – Our Final Verdict
We actually really enjoyed this game. The opening sequence was a nice touch and it’s a shame that you don’t encounter any more animations like that. Nevertheless, the gameplay is simple but enjoyable and should appeal to most players.
You’re not going to encounter any mind-blowing new mechanics here. But Wild Chapo is a visually-pleasing and charming slot that’s easy to understand and highly playable. There’s also a decent maximum potential payout and return to player rate underpinning the game.
Although the free spins game was disappointingly stingy initially, it didn’t take long to figure out that the payoff comes at the very end. It’s not easy to earn rewards of anything more than pennies. But when those wilds stack up on the final spin, you’ll find yourself securing some sizable wins. That suspense was the most enjoyable part of the game.
